# Conversation and speakers

> Review live conversation, edit words, and correct speaker attribution.

## Follow the live conversation

The **Conversation** tab groups consecutive passages from the same known speaker into a turn with a name and start time. Unknown speakers remain separate. Transcription arrives in windows, so the display may trail the live audio. Opening **Current insights** pauses Follow live so you can read without being pulled away.

Speech recognition and speaker attribution are estimates. Simultaneous speech, noise, missing timings, and quiet boundaries can produce missed words or incorrect assignments. Stenox does not separate overlapping voices into clean audio tracks.

## Name and reassign speakers

A speaker's pencil appears on hover or keyboard focus. Use it to rename that speaker or reassign the whole turn. Right-click an individual passage to reassign only that passage.

Renaming a speaker updates the displayed name and linked outcome owners while retaining the underlying source identity. If the session has calendar context, organizer and invitee names can be offered as choices. Choosing a name is a manual attribution; a calendar invitation is not evidence that the person attended or spoke.

Local diarization has up to eight arrival-order speaker channels. Speaker identities belong to the current meeting and are not voiceprints recognized across meetings. Cloud speaker labels are reconciled across overlapping requests and can remain uncertain at boundaries.

## Correct the transcript

Click a passage to edit its text. **Enter** or clicking away saves; **Escape** cancels. The original words and timing remain attached to the same source passage so citations still lead back to it.

A correction invalidates stale AI work. The next scheduled or manual insight review considers the corrected evidence. New speech continues in a separate passage while you edit, so a draft does not hide incoming words.

## Open source links

Insights and Ask answers can link to original conversation passages. Follow the link and review the surrounding turn before relying on a task, decision, or answer. A valid citation establishes a source location, not a guarantee that the AI interpretation is correct.

Transcript exports use your current edits and speaker names. An already exported file remains a snapshot; export again to include later corrections. [Export formats](/meetings/exports) explains timing and content boundaries.
