# Export and keep your session

> Download transcripts and Markdown notes, with clear limits on what each file contains.

Use the session's download menu to choose the content you need. Transcript and note exports are separate.

| Download | Contains |
| - | - |
| **Transcript (.srt)** | Timed subtitle cues and speaker names. |
| **Transcript with timestamps (.txt)** | Consecutive same-speaker turns with start/end times. |
| **Refined session notes (.md)** | The saved refined Markdown draft, including your edits. |
| **Current structured notes (.md)** | Accepted takeaways, decisions, tasks grouped by owner, and questions, with statuses and deadlines. |

## Review before sharing

Transcript formats use the current edited words and speaker names. SRT keeps the recording timeline; an edited passage uses its original interval because new word alignment is not known. Transcript files do not include insights.

Current notes can be rendered directly from accepted outcomes. Refined notes need a successfully prepared or manually edited draft. If refinement fails, use Current structured notes rather than assuming an empty or old draft contains the whole session.

Downloading saved notes, reopening them, or switching Raw / Formatted display does not call the AI provider. Requesting a new refinement does.

## What is not in these exports

These download options are not a full session backup. They do not bundle the Personal notes field, the entire Ask history, imported reference files, or a complete editable session database. Insights and refined notes can reflect the priorities in your Personal notes, but exporting them does not export the original personal writing. Copy that writing separately when you need it outside Stenox.

The app stores session data locally, including saved extracted reference text. Its active SQLite storage is plaintext; do not describe local storage as app-encrypted. Use your Mac's own access and disk-protection settings as appropriate.

## Revisit and edit

Search Notetaker history and open the session to keep working. Later edits do not update files already downloaded; export a new snapshot when needed. Session deletion requires confirmation and is unavailable during active capture. Save or export the material you want to keep before deleting a session.
