# Cohere Transcribe

> Run Cohere Transcribe locally with MLX and an explicit language selection.

Cohere Transcribe is a **local speech provider**, separate from cloud API services. Stenox uses MLX on Apple Silicon to run **Cohere Transcribe 03-2026 (8-bit)**.

| Model ID | Estimated download |
| - | - |
| `cohere-transcribe-03-2026-8bit` | \~2.4 GB |

The pinned model repository is `beshkenadze/cohere-transcribe-03-2026-mlx-8bit`. A first download needs internet; transcription runs on the Mac afterward. No Cohere API key is required for this provider.

## Choose a language

The adapter accepts Arabic, German, Greek, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Vietnamese, and Chinese.

Choose the spoken language explicitly. Automatic or unsupported language values normalize to English; they do not trigger multilingual auto-detection.

## Set it up

1. Edit Default or a custom profile in **Profiles**.
2. Select **Cohere Transcribe (Local)**.
3. Select a supported language and wait for the model to download and load.
4. Try a short recording before using a long file or meeting.

The model also appears in **Settings → Models**. [Model management](/setup/models) covers resource use and removal. Notetaker follows this shared speech selection and adds meeting-local speaker processing when needed.
